Rainbow Mennonite Church Choir, KCK, 3/18/2012 Text by Menno Simons, 16th c.; adapted by Kenneth Nafziger, 1996 1. O God, to whom then shall I turn? Come, now protect me as I wander. I am surrounded day and night by foes that seek my soul to slander. O God, your spirit grant to me so I in life might faithful be, and in your presence dwell eternally. 2. Wand'ring a lone through Egypt's land, daily I sinned, your name renouncing. There I was seen a worthy guest, untroubled by the world around me. Trapped, without hope, in evil's noose, not fearing I my life might lose, I gave myself unto the devil's cause. 3. But I returned to God, my Lord, once and for all the world forsaking. Riches of Egypt faded soon as Christ his peace eternal gave me. They who desire to enter life, though in a world where sin is rife, must stay the course through trials, tests and strife. 4. Then at the end of life's short span, Christ, our salvation, there awaits us. "Come, child," says God, "receive yo! ur crown; here dwell forever with the angels." Tears shall be wiped from ev'ry eye. No one will suffer pain or die. Let us Christ Jesus' name now glorify!
